Lucian Tarango, a seventh grader at Hillcrest Junior High in Murray, Utah, is making his mark as a member of the Class of 2030. With six years of tackle football under his belt, his passion for the sport began at a young age, sparked by watching Marshawn Lynch’s games and Bo Jackson highlights with his dad. That early exposure ignited a love for football that has driven Tarango’s dedication and growth as an athlete.
For Tarango, football is about more than just the game; it’s the camaraderie and teamwork that mean the most. As a wide receiver, he embraces the challenge of the workouts and training required to excel at an elite level. His strengths—footwork, speed, and great hands—reflect the dedication he puts into honing his craft. Inspired by Calvin Johnson, a receiver known for his dominance and unique style, Tarango strives to bring a similar edge to his own play.

Off the field, Tarango is a well-rounded individual who enjoys spending time with friends and pursuing other activities, like ice skating. His commitment to football is evident in his participation in camps, such as a QB/WR camp in Utah, where he particularly enjoyed refining his route-running skills. As a member of a 7-on-7 team, Tarango stays active during the spring months, competing and sharpening his game.
This past year, Tarango showcased his resilience and playmaking ability during the first round of the playoffs. With his team trailing 20-21 and less than a minute remaining, he and his quarterback audibled from an out route to a slant after recognizing a blitz. The adjustment allowed Tarango to beat the defender inside and secure the game-winning touchdown, lifting his team to a 22-21 victory. It was a moment that demonstrated his football IQ and ability to perform under pressure.

Tarango has faced his share of challenges, including recovering from a heart condition that required surgery and injuries to his back and neck during a playoff game. Through rest, recovery, stretching, and taking care of his body, he has overcome these obstacles and continues to move forward stronger than ever. His goals for the next six months include improving his speed and footwork while aiming to win a 7-on-7 tournament. Over the next year, he is determined to help his team win a championship in the UTE conference.

Tarango credits his success to his faith, his family, and his coaches. He begins every game with a prayer and expresses gratitude to God for the opportunity to play football. He is especially thankful for his dad’s love and support and plans to dedicate his 2025 season to his grandfather, Papa Andy, whose memory inspires him to play with heart and purpose.
Lucian Tarango’s story is one of resilience, determination, and a love for the game. Whether it’s battling through adversity or achieving big moments on the field, Tarango exemplifies what it means to put in the effort and do it for the love of the sport. With his focus and drive, he is poised for continued success and growth as he looks toward the future.
