CJ’s Rise

Wide Receiver CJ Anderson represents what it looks like to grow through football, to face challenges head-on, and to keep moving forward. A member of the Class of 2028 at Morse High School in San Diego, CJ’s journey began in flag football, and even at an early age he found joy in competing, getting better at something each day, and forming friendships that turned into lasting memories. His development through the sport has been shaped by effort, adversity, mentorship, and a growing understanding of what it truly means to be a wide receiver.

What CJ enjoys most in the game are the moments that stand out: big plays, explosive catches, and celebrations shared with teammates. He sees every opportunity on the field as a chance to do something special, knowing that receivers often get that spotlight moment when a drive changes because of a catch, a route, or a run after the catch. Those are the experiences that motivate him and remind him why he kept going, even when the sport tested him.

CJ sees patience as one of the most important qualities in a receiver. He understands that the play design already gives him a purpose; his responsibility is to trust the route, wait for the right timing, and get to his spot. Another quality he emphasizes is being crafty. At times he has been an undersized receiver, which means defenders try to press him or take away space. Rather than wanting more size or strength, CJ focuses on finesse, using releases, footwork, and misdirection to create separation. That level of craft shows up in how he studies the game, especially through receivers like Antonio Brown, who he admires for elite body control, crisp route running, and precision near the sideline. Seeing that style shapes the way CJ approaches his own development.

Off the field, he enjoys basketball and relaxing while watching TV, but even his downtime tends to connect back to football in some way. From film sessions to watching other receivers at different levels, he uses that time to improve his understanding of spacing, timing, and execution. One important experience outside of regular football was attending FCA camp, where his favorite part was doing hard workouts early, competing again later in the day, and ending with chapel, which brought faith and football together. The balance of physical work and spiritual learning mattered to him because it kept his motivation grounded in purpose, not just results.

CJ evaluates his goals clearly. In the short term he wants to sharpen his releases and routes, knowing those skills define consistency. In the long term he wants to reach a point where he can catch any pass without excuses—high, low, late, or contested. That mindset reflects maturity, acknowledging that part of being reliable is removing conditions and taking responsibility for every opportunity.

His journey has included difficult moments, especially around his eighth-grade year, when he considered walking away from the sport. But stepping away reminded him how much he truly loved football, and that realization brought him back more committed than before. He faced an additional setback when he hurt his knee and couldn’t move the way he normally did. Working through the injury, rebuilding movement, and trusting the process taught him patience and discipline. Now fully healthy again, he carries those lessons into how he trains and competes.

His daily routine speaks to his dedication. He eats breakfast, lifts in the afternoon, goes to practice, comes home and throws the ball around, then watches videos to improve technique. There is no wasted movement in his day, and no moment where he steps away from the idea of getting better. Before games, his routine stays simple—a prayer, a calm state of mind, and readiness to perform.

Among the influences in his development, Coach Mac stands out. He coached CJ in youth football and now coaches him in high school. Beyond improving his understanding of formations, coverages, and plays, Coach Mac emphasized accountability in the classroom, reminding CJ that school matters just as much as performance on the field. That consistency of mentorship has shaped CJ’s approach to football and life.

CJ’s perspective toward younger athletes or anyone starting football is straightforward: the sport is difficult, challenges come often, and quitting is always an option—but not the one that leads to growth. His message is to keep working because effort has a way of rewarding those who stay with it long enough.

CJ has recently been accepted into the 2026 June College Camps + Bus TOUR powered by Quarterback Magazine and Wide Receiver Magazine. He will be among the invited TOUR prospects traveling to Division I campuses this summer, competing with athletes from across the country and showcasing his skill, mindset, and potential on a national stage.

CJ Anderson plays with purpose, carries himself with resilience, and strives to elevate not only his own performance but also the energy around him. For a wide receiver still early in his career, he has already built a foundation that reflects what it means to commit, improve, and take pride in every step of the process.
